Lowcountry Lowline

The Lowline Project is a portion of the former South Carolina Canal and Rail Road Company track that was begun in 1828. The rail began at Line Street which was the City’s boundary at the time and ran to Hamburg, SC. Later land was purchased south of Line Street to extend the rail. Originally the owners of land in the area south of Line Street objected to the rail because it would startle the horses.
