Cougar Island is located near the eastern end of Kiawah Island. A 2019 court order confirmed an unbroken chain of title from the original grant and plat specifically for the marsh to its current owner. Kiawah Island was granted to Capt. George Raynor in 1700. Conveyed to John Stanyarne and then devised by his will of 1772 to his granddaughters.
