The house built by Hutchinson house sits on the former Shell House plantation site off Point of Pines road. It was purchased by the Edisto Island Open Land Trust to preserve the site and tell the story of a remaining house built by an African American after emancipation. Freedman’s Bank Records are invaluable pieces of the puzzle for African American ownership.
