The house at 32 Broad was razed and combined with 34 Broad to build a bank. But in the early 19th century it was known as 28 Broad Street. This is a fine example of how street numbers in Charleston change over time. William Payne conducted his broker business here and profited in the auction of thousands of enslaved people.
